The overall aim is to enable students to develop the professional skills and knowledge that they will need for a career in the field of TESOL.
More particularly, the programme aims:
•To make students aware of theoretical issues in language teaching and learning to develop their understanding of current methodology as it is embodied in classroom practice
•To introduce students to contemporary approaches to the analysis of language
•To enable students to understand the connections that may be made between theory and practice.
The tutors involved in teaching the programme have all had many years experience themselves of teaching English to speakers of other languages, in other countries and in Britain. They also have considerable experience of training teachers, and active ongoing research interests in TESOL related areas.

All students take the core modules listed for semesters one and two, as well as completing the dissertation, normally on a subject related to the topics covered in their taught modules.

教学与评估 Teaching and Assessment:
Students choose three further taught modules from a selection on offer each year. Assessment of the core modules is on the basis of written assignments each of 4,000 words; Research Design is assessed on the basis of a portfolio of work.
The remaining taught modules are assessed by take-home examinations.
