The Applied MSc Economics Programme is designed for students who wish to apply advanced level knowledge of economics to practical and policy issues.
The course is specifically designed to equip you with analytical skills for economic analysis and the ability to apply them.
The core modules on this course provide a solid grounding in economic analysis, rather than theory, and a wide range of applied economics options is available in the second semester.
The MSc Applied Economics is of particular use to those who want to work as professional economists in the private or public sector.

During the first semester, you will pursue core modules in:

• Economic Policy Analysis
• Economic Data Analysis
In the second semester, you will take four more modules. Two of these must come from a range of applied economics modules, including:

• Economic Growth
• Income Distribution and Poverty
• Trade Analysis and Policy
• Global Environmental Issues
• Applied Money and Finance
• Development Policy and Analysis
• Development Microeconomics
• Options and Futures Markets
• Decision-making under Risk and Uncertainty
The remaining two modules are a free choice of options from a wide range, including:
• Advanced Macroeconomic Theory
• International Macroeconomics
• Economic Applications of Game Theory
• Behavioural Economic Theory
• Experimental Methods in Economics
• Public Economic Theory
• Behavioural Finance
You will write a supervised dissertation over the summer period on a topic of your choice related to Applied Economics.
