This programme is for those interested in developing a career in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL), but who have less than two years (or no) TEFL experience. The programme consists of four core courses, including TEFL classroom teaching and testing methods. A further two courses are taken from among the following: Second Language Learning, Curriculum Design and Teacher Development in Language Education, Communicative and Pedagogical Grammar, Culture and the Language Learner, and Researching Oral Language Pedagogy. A third is chosen from a wide range of additional modules. The remainder of the work involves undertaking an extended independent study project concerning an aspect of TEFL practice. Although the programme focuses on TEFL, it will also be of relevance to those interested in the teaching of other foreign languages.

Postgraduate Academic Study Skills
Dissertation
A dissertation (60 credits) of 12,500 words is also undertaken. This comprises a report on a small-scale empirical investigation of an aspect of TEFL practice.
