学术要求: The normal requirement for admission to the LLM or to the Postgraduate Diploma will be a good undergraduate honors’ degree in law (or overseas equivalent) and an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent. The Course Director may consider other cases based on applicants’ qualifications, experience and potential successfully to undertake and complete the course.

The course is designed for law graduates from anywhere in the world who wish to develop a specialist knowledge of the increasingly important field of international trade law, international economic law and related areas. Such specialist knowledge is increasingly sought by law firms, businesses and governmental bodies all over the world, in response to the expansion of international trade and commerce and international regulation, resulting from economic, political and technological change.

Core Modules

LX5501 International Trade Law
Students studying this module will learn the law governing international contracts for the supply of goods, and delve into issues of sale of goods, transport, insurance, finance, leasing, factoring, arbitration, conflicts of laws, and the international harmonisation of laws.

LX5502 International Economic Law
This series of seminars will cover the law governing economic relations between States. Students will learn the law governing the major global economic institutions including the International Monetary Fund, the Word Bank and the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The primary subjects examined include the WTO rules with respect to the trade in goods, services, and trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights. Analysis is made of tariffs, rules on unfair trade (such as dumping and anti-dumping measures; subsidies and countervailing measures); and the WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) jurisprudence.

Dissertation
From the end of February, you will work on a 15,000 word dissertation on an topic to be agreed between you and the Course Director, related to some aspect of European or international commercial law. The dissertation is due at the end of the summer. This will provide you with an opportunity to deepen your understanding of a particular area of interest.

Elective Modules
Two from a selection that currently includes:
LX5505 International Finance Law
This module is designed to give students sound knowledge of the nature and function of banking, securities, and financial markets; European and international legal regulation of financial markets; and the role of international financial organisations.

LX5506 EU and International  Competition Law and Policy

The main aim of this module is to study and assess the core legal provisions and principles as well as key policy issues relating to competition law of the European Union Students will study and assess developments at international organisational level in terms of inter-state co-operation in addressing competition issues.

Company Law
Main topics of study include separate legal personality, limited liability, the company’s constitution, the duties of the directors, transactions between the company and outsiders, the protection of minority shareholders, corporate governance.

LX5503 International Intellectual Property Law
In this module, the student will focus on the European and international developments in Intellectual Property law.
 
LX5504 Public International Law
The module Public International Law is designed to give students an in depth knowledge of the laws which govern the relations between nations.

LX5510 International Labour Law
The International Labour Organization (ILO) was established in 1919 for the specific purpose of preventing the occurrence or development of conditions of labour involving such injustice, hardship, and privation to large numbers of people as to produce unrest so great that the peace and harmony of the world are imperilled, OR to use the language of the UN Commission on Human Security – to ensure freedom from want and freedom from fear.

LX5507 International and EU Environmental Law
The main aim of this module is to study and assess the core legal provisions and principles as well as key policy issues relating to International and EU Environmental law.

 
教学与评估 Teaching and Assessment:

For each module you will be assessed twice, first by way of a written essay and then by way of a "seen" or "pre-released" examination, where the question paper is released 24 hours before the exam takes place. Each assessment is worth 50% of the overall grade.
