课程特征 Course Features:
The MA in European Literatures is designed to give graduates in either English or Modern Languages the opportunity to study and compare a range of major European and British literary works from the 19th and 20th centuries. Optional units in earlier periods of literature are also available.
Texts not originally written in English will be studied in translation, and students are likely to encounter works belonging to each of the major cultural traditions covered by the School of Modern Languages (French, German, Hispanic, Italian, Russian). Other traditions (Czech, Portuguese, Latin American) may also be included, and consideration of a variety of approaches to literature will develop advanced critical and analytical skills.
The programme offers an excellent opportunity to broaden and deepen literary interests developed either at undergraduate level or perhaps in the course of later reading and reflection. With its theoretical underpinnings and wide-ranging appraisal of the European literary tradition, it also provides an excellent grounding for anyone intending to pursue further research in European or comparative literature.
