课程特征 Course Features:
Machine Learning and Data Mining are concerned with the automated analysis of large-scale data by computer, in order to extract the useful knowledge hidden in it. Using state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence methods, this technology builds computer systems capable of learning from past experience, allowing them to adapt to new tasks, predict future developments, and provide intelligent decision support.
This programme is aimed at giving you a solid grounding in Machine Learning and Data Mining technology and equipping you with the skills necessary to construct and apply ML and DM tools to the solution of complex scientific and business problems.
Skilled professionals and researchers, who are able to apply Machine Learning and Data Mining technology to current problems and thereby push the limits of what computers can effectively do, are in high demand
课程内容 Course Content :
In the introductory week you will take a programming proficiency test and will be placed in either an 'experienced' stream or a 'foundation' stream.
Please note that this programme is updated on an ongoing basis to keep it at the forefront of the discipline. Please refer to the Department of Computer Science website for the latest information.
First Semester
All students must complete three core units:
•Introduction to Machine Learning
•Artificial Intelligence and Logic Programming
•Learning in Autonomous Systems
Students on the foundation stream must complete one additional core unit:
•Programming in C
Students on the experienced stream must complete two additional core units from:
•Advanced Algorithms
•Algorithmic and Economic Aspects of the Internet
•Computational Genomics and Bioinformatics Algorithms
Second Semester
All students must complete three core units:
•Advanced Topics in Machine Learning
•Learning from Structured Data
•Project Specification and Design
Plus two additional units from a range of options:
•Computational Molecular Biology
•Computational Neuroscience
•Pattern Analysis and Statistical Learning
Summer
You must complete a final MSc project which consists of researching, planning and implementing a major piece of work. The project must contain a significant scientific or technical component and will usually involve a software development component. This is usually submitted by the end of September.
