•Two years full-time teaching experience (experienced pathway only)
•For those with no teaching experience, your first degree should include some Applied Linguistics or other relevant area of study
•We will also consider non-graduates who have five or more years of full-time TESOL experience

Overview
This course is designed to support the professional growth and career development of English Language Teaching professionals. The MA ELT caters for both experienced and inexperienced teachers, who study on different pathways leading to the same degree. The focus is very practical and encourages critical reflection on students' own experience of teaching and learning.
Our lecturers are experts in their field of English Language Teaching, with many having taught English abroad. Teaching methods encourage active participation in group work, discussion and exchange of experiences and ideas. Students are also given the opportunity to undertake practical work, including designing class materials and planning lessons and tests.
We value the differing perspectives of teachers from different countries and their varied experiences of teaching and learning; the broadening of cultural horizons is one of the advantages of joining such an internationally diverse programme. Students on our course come from a wide variety of countries including Taiwan, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Korea, China, Mexico and the UK.
We offer a high level of in-sessional support designed specifically around the needs of students, both in classes and on an individual basis.
Accreditation
Students who achieve the qualification of the MA ELT (Nottingham Trent University) obtain an internationally recognised English language teaching qualifications.

Modules
Core modules on the Experienced Language Teachers (ELT) pathway are:
•language in use
•theory and practice in language teaching
•course design and assessment.
Core modules on the Practical Language Teaching (PLT) pathway are:
•language in use
•principles and practice in language learning and teaching
•materials and assessment in language teaching.
Option modules are selected from the following list. Modules marked * are only open to students on the ELT pathway:
•blended learning and CALL: multimedia applications in language teaching
•English for specific purposes*
•intercultural communication

•management in ELT*
•materials development
•teacher education*
•teaching English language through literature
•teaching English to young learners

The final part of the MA in ELT is the dissertation. The dissertation is a 15,000-word piece of independent work that builds upon the practical, theoretical and research skills of the MA programme. It is an opportunity for students to follow their own interests, demonstrate their strengths and produce a rigorously researched dissertation on a specific subject.
教学与评估Teaching and Assessment:
Assessment
Module assessment is carried out using a variety of formats, including written assignments, portfolios, oral presentations, class tests and micro-teaching. There are no examinations. Students must complete all their module assignments successfully before proceeding to the dissertation.
An MA in English Language Teaching from Nottingham Trent University is a widely respected qualification, which will help you to secure an English Language teaching post in your chosen country.
More experienced teachers can become leaders and facilitators of change, as they return to work with fresh insights and ideas about teaching. Graduates from the MA course have taken on staff development responsibilities, become academic managers and even opened their own schools. Some have gone on to do PhDs.
