The programme is designed to give you an advanced and critical understanding of some of the main elements of the public and private law framework in which international companies and business organisations operate. It will provide invaluable insights for anyone with a genuine interest in working for internationally active businesses or indeed, for Government departments or regulatory bodies concerned with international business.

The programme will examine the corporate legal form and the problems surrounding management and accountability of large, powerful multinational companies, their managers and owners. Alternative structures for doing business and raising finance for commercial enterprise will also be assessed. Contractual dynamics of international trade and how best to manage contractual risk when selling and buying in different countries and different currencies as well as dispute resolution techniques when problems arise will be examined in the programme. In addition, you will study the legal framework for global trade established by the World Trade organisation.
You take compulsory modules (80 credits), optional modules (40 credits) and, at the end of the summer semester, submit a dissertation (60 credits).
Compulsory modules include: legal research skills and methods; WTO law; law of international sales of goods; and corporate governance and corporate finance.
Optional modules may include: international commercial arbitration; international law of credit and security; competition law; procurement law: international standards; intellectual property law; introduction to Islamic finance; legal and regulatory aspects of banking supervision; legal and regulatory aspects of financial crime and money laundering; legal and regulatory aspects of Islamic finance; foundations of public international law; movement of persons in a global world; international criminal law; contemporary problems in international law and dispute settlement; foundations of environmental law; natural resources law; international environmental law; EU environmental law; science , climate change and environmental justice; introduction to planning law; and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - law and practice.
You are assessed by course work essays and written examinations, plus your dissertation. Most modules are taught by means of seminar groups.
