Units (Stage 1)

Units (Stage 2)

Both local and regional government around the world have recognised the importance of culture and tourism as alternative forms of sustainable development that could help improve living and economic conditions. Dissertation
In Stage 3 you will undertake an investigation of an appropriate, closely specified topic, using the skills you have learnt. You will have the opportunity to initiate, design and conduct a piece of research using original thought and independent judgement. This could either involve research in a particular field of interest or expertise, or it could be in the form of a major management/consultation project. You will have a supervisor from a member of the academic staff who will be able to advise you at regular meetings. Although preliminary work is undertaken earlier in the year, the dissertation is normally completed over the summer months, allowing a 12-month phase for the MSc from start to finish.

教学与评估 Teaching and Assessment:
The MSc Cultural and Tourism Management adopts a hands-on approach to teaching and learning. The course concentrates on the applied and practical aspects of cultural and tourism management and places considerable emphasis on case study material. You will have the opportunity to evaluate how the industry is implementing a number of policies through fieldwork activity and trips to cultural and tourist attractions.

The dissertation provides the opportunity for students to initiate, design and conduct a small piece of research or management/consultation project and is largely student-centred learning, although students have an experienced dissertation supervisor in the Department who is available for individual meetings on a regular basis.

Courses are assessed in a variety of ways, normally via coursework and/or examination, and include unseen examinations, written essays, reports, in-class tests and presentations.

职业机会 Career Opportunities:
Successful students will attain a wide range of skills leaving them well qualified to seek employment or further their career in all aspects of cultural and tourism management. The degree is equally suitable for entry to the public or state sector.

Career opportunities include employment in the:
•Service sector (in hotels, cultural and heritage parks, leisure complexes and attractions, in media firms).
•Public sector (local, regional or national government, in international organisations).
•Business sector (in banks and investment firms, in arts and cultural organisations, in consultancy firms).
•Tourism professionals, commercial and public sector managers, as well as many other jobs with responsibility for decision-making.
Good students would also be able to consider undertaking research degrees such as MPhil or PhD.
