课程特征 Course Features:
Students will be able to analyse the relationship between films and the cultures and societies in which they are and have been produced and consumed. It will focus in particular on the cinemas of Hollywood, Britain and Europe.
The programme will place a particular emphasis on research methods and skills, hence the 90-credit dissertation. The aim is to develop students' independent learning and research skills in order to equip them for careers in arts and policy management, film journalism, and the film industry or for further study to PhD level.

Core module covering the major approaches to film studies: formalism and aesthetics, authorship and genre, history and the film industry
Research skills module
Dissertation (either 60 credits or 90 credits - students taking the 60-credit dissertation will take an additional enhanced Level 3 subject module from HAF or SML).
教学与评估 Teaching and Assessment:
The core module will be team taught in thematic blocks of four weeks focusing on a particular approach to film studies exemplified by case studies (e.g. 'Authorship and Cinema' using as a case study the films of Luis Bunuel). Each block will be assessed through different coursework, including, for example, a book review as well as conventional essays.
