Communication provides the framework for the development of any modern society. The investigation, therefore, of the processes, effects, and contents of communications is central to any understanding of the contemporary world.
The Institute of Communications Studies is a multidisciplinary enterprise which brings together specialists from politics, sociology, history, engineering, international relations and journalism to improve our understanding of how communications drives modernization in our ‘information age’.
Leeds was the first ‘traditional’ British university to embark upon the academic study of communications and their role in the political and social systems of the modern world.
