It offers an exciting balance between the rules and institutions governing the regulation of trading conduct by states (such as the World Trade Organization) and the rules that regulate the private contracts between firms and individuals from different countries (often referred to as international commercial law).

Spring term: you take two options, at least one of which must be from the following: Carriage by Air ▪ Carriage of Goods by Sea ▪ Cyberlaw ▪ EU Competition Law ▪ EU Single Market ▪ Intellectual Property ▪ International and Comparative Company Law ▪ International and Comparative Corporate Insolvency ▪ International Environmental Law ▪ Law and Citizenship of the EU ▪ Law of International Business Transactions.
The range of options available may vary in any one year. One option may be selected from the full array offered within Law; refer to the full list of options under the Master of Laws (LLM).
Summer term and vacation: supervised work on the LLM dissertation.

The courses are assessed by a combination of coursework, unseen examinations, essays (4,000-5,000 words) and a 15,000-word dissertation.

Our graduates have gone on to careers in education, and also roles as magistrates, tutors, posts in the Ministry of Finance, the Citizen's Advice Bureau, the United Nations, the International War Crimes Tribunals and the International Criminal Court as well as in a wide range of international and domestic agencies, including ministries of justice, police and prosecution. There is also a strong demand for International Criminal Law graduates in non-governmental organisations and, for those suitably qualified, as lawyers practising in this rapidly growing area.
Our International Trade Law graduates have also gone on to train as lawyers and taken posts as brokers.
