But other professional and higher education qualifications and achievements, particularly in media will be considered. Applicants are expected to demonstrate sufficient prior experience of journalism and have an academic or professional background in a relevant subject.
Portfolio advice
Applicants will be required to produce a portfolio of work including print cuttings, videos and evidence of media experience.

Journalism is a highly competitive business. Yet there is a constant demand for skilled and talented journalists who can work across different media platforms. The MA course is well regarded by the industry as one of the top practice-based courses in Europe, it has a close relationship with journalists at the BBC and in the national press. With the College's base in London, students are in the heartland of the British and international media.
The central core of the course is journalism methods, story origination and research and investigation techniques. You will gain a portfolio of advanced skills across a range of media forms, together with an understanding of theories of media ownership, structures and institutions in the UK and Europe. You will produce a critical appraisal of media ethics and law as applied to norms of professional journalism.

Phase 1
•1.1 Editorial Practice 1: Stories, Writing and Production Skills
•1.2 Journalism Methods and Context including Research Methods
In Phase 1 you will gain an understanding of contemporary themes in journalism and explore how they relate to your practice. This phase, consisting of two core units, aims to give you a critical understanding of the main economic, social, political and legal context in which journalism is practised within the framework of a developing body of theoretical work on the media.
Phase 2
•2.1 Media Law and Ethics
•2.2 Editorial Practice 2
•2.3 Editorial Practice 3: Production (Print/Online) OR 2.3 Editorial Practice 3: Production (Television)
In Phase 2 you will develop and build on the experiences, ideas, skills and interests gained in Phase One to develop and present your own detailed proposal for an original piece of journalism. This is developed within an exploration of the contexts for the work, particularly production.
Phase 3
•3.0 Major Project
In the MA, Phase 3 of the course, you will further your knowledge and extend your experience, critical/professional understanding and practice through the completion and presentation of the Major project.
