课程内容 Course Content:
You take compulsory modules in language and cross-cultural communication; and media analysis (40 credits). Further optional language and communication modules (40 credits) can be taken from a selection that may include: English in the world; sociolinguistics; the social psychology of communication; culture and intercultural communication. You also take 40 further credits of optional modules from the media studies specialism, which typically include: PR in the digital age; media and law; strategies and management in PR; multi media journalism principles and practice; globalisation and culture; news and journalism; public affairs: politics, journalism, PR; television studies.
Teaching is by lectures, case-based workshops, interactive seminars, and individual tutorials. Assessment is by course work (examinations, oral presentations and submitted work) and the research portfolio. The research portfolio (60 credits) is different from a conventional dissertation. It consists of a set of research files where you discuss the theoretical background and methodological approaches to cross-cultural communication, and conduct a supervised research project in this area.
